Users & Roles
Driver uses role-based access control (RBAC) at three levels: organization, team, and source. Each level has specific roles that determine what a user can do.
Role hierarchy
| Level | Role | Permissions |
|---|---|---|
| Organization | Org Admin | Full control over all settings, users, teams, sources, and integrations |
| Organization | Org Member | Access determined by team and source-level grants |
| Team | Team Admin | Manage team members, team sources, and team settings |
| Team | Team Member | View team info and access team sources |
| Source | Source Admin | Full control over a specific source, manage who can access it |
| Source | Source Member | View and interact with source content |
A user's effective access to any source is the highest role from all their grants (direct, team, or org-wide).
Inviting users
1
Open organization settings
Go to Settings > Organization in the Driver web app.
2
Click Invite
Enter the user's email address.
3
Assign an organization role
Select Org Admin or Org Member. Org Admins get full control. Org Members need explicit access through teams or direct source grants.
Key principle
Org Admins bypass all access checks. They can view and manage every source, team, and setting in the organization.
Everyone else needs explicit access through one of these paths:
- A direct source assignment
- A team that has been granted access to a source
- An organization-wide source grant
